Standard bank taking me for a ride
I’m a Standardbank Prestige Account holder. On Tuesday the 16th September I went into the branch to solicit my bank statement for the month of February and March. I couldn’t obtain this from the ATM because it was past 6 months. I was then informed by one of the bankers that this request would come at a cost of R80 per month, thus R160 for the 2 months, I was not comfortable with the price but I obliged because I urgently needed the statements. To my shock I just checked how much they charged me now and it’s R380 for the statements for February and March. I’m currently unemployed and I feel completely taken advantage of. The banker who served me told me the cost. I’m failing to understand why standard bank would want to levy such fees during these times of economic hardship. I called their service Centre and was told they would log a dispute on the system etc but the consultant said she couldn’t guarantee that this matter would be resolved. My account is overdrawn due to this. I’m very disappointed in standard bank. I need this to be fixed because it’s grossly unfair. How do you charge me R380 over and above the R209 that I pay on a monthly basis for service fees?
