Standard Bank taking early debit orders knowing that it is against PASA rules

They are going against the PASA rules and knows it but still chooses to continue even after I advised them it is against the rules – their words Standard Bank took a business decision!

I received a sms from Standard Bank on 13 December 2018 advising me (for my convenience) my debit order will be processed on 14 December 2018. They didn’t ask, they told me! I rep**** to the sms advising them that my pay date is only after the 14th and therefore don’t give them permission as there will be no funds available. I also contacted them (ref number for the call – ********** 535) where I spoke to a call centre agent advising them that my pay date is only after the 14th and therefore I can’t give them permission to deduct money earlier. She advised me that they can’t cancel the debit order and should it go off I must call and ask for a reversal where it will take 24hrs to be reversed. I advised them that there will be a reversal charge then and she advised there won’t. I said but if there is no money in my account I will be charged for insufficient funds, she advised me again I won’t. I then asked for the supervisor (Molefi) where the agent told me but he would tell me the same, after saying that I don’t care I spoke to the supervisor.

The supervisor’s response after I told him it’s against PASA rules was that it doesn’t matter as it was a business decision. I was advised the same as what the agent said. I told the supervisor that my mandate does not give them consent to deduct money earlier and he advised me I should not worry as it will be a NAEDO with tracking so if there is no money it won’t be processed and therefore no reversal fee as there won’t be a transaction. I advised him I know how a NAEDO works and that even still 1...I didn’t give them permission to deduct money earlier and 2...should there still be no money available at the end of the tracking there will still be a reversal fee for insufficient funds. He advised me that Standard Bank took the decision that there will be no fees due to them taking money earlier as well as that it won’t affect my credit score.

After all of this not once was I asked for my details to get into my profile. I had to ask him to access my profile for the call to be logged and to generate a reference so I can report this.

A NAEDO ran against my account with no available funds without tracking and they took the money even without any funds available on the 14th. I received a sms today advising me that my account is overdrawn and that I should rectify it. So not only did they load an unauthorised debit order but they proceeded to take money that wasn’t there.

This is abuse against the consumer that does not know any better and even me that knows the rules.....here I sit with my hands chopped off as a Bank they just do what they want.

I have reported this to PASA as well.

Standard Bank has given me a general reply saying they will address it urgently, yet I have not been contacted other than the general reply. So do you really care about the inconvenienced caused? By not contacting me you basically admit that you have no respect for the rules and laws around debit orders.
