Standard Bank takes R266 000 from my Fixed Deposit without any Correspondence till Date.

On the 26 July 2016 at about 14h00 I opened a new account at Standard bank Durbanville branch. The reason being that the person paying me had a Standard bank account, and I have an ABSA / Capitec account. I was uncomfortable dealing with this person and did not want to risk the chance of waiting for funds to be cleared. I confirmed with the personal inside the bank that if he does a transfer inside the bank at the counter to my account the money is irreversible to his account. My account was then opened with an amount of R266 000.

Once the account was opened and the funds were in my name, I felt safe.

I decided not to transfer it to my bank as I was advised on a good interest rate for a 31 day fixed Deposit. This made me feel at ease, and I once again confirmed that my funds are secure. I transferred an amount of R265 900 to the 31 Day fixed Deposit.

Once again I was given the assurance, my MONEY / CASH is SAFE.

I never once went back to the bank had any contact with them or made any inquiry regarding my fixed Deposit thereafter.

Remembering that I was told if I do not give notice the funds simply roll over for another 31 days and so forth. This being my only fixed Deposit, I was in for the long term with Standard Bank.

I never bothered about it again until the 10 November 2016, when I went to Standard Bank to go and give notice for my funds. That’s when I was told there is NO FUNDS in my account.

I am absolutely shocked in the manner HOW Standard bank has dealt with my money and that they authorized the funds to be transferred back to the person that had transferred the funds to my account. He is now gone with my vehicles, and my motor bikes, plus all my money.

I was never contacted, phoned, emailed or received any form of communication EVER from Standard Bank.

Till now I have only received this from Standard Bank 18 days

Good day Mr ******

We acknowledge your email(s) and furthermore we appreciate you taking the time to bring your concerns to our attention.

At the outset I need to apologize for the frustration this matter has caused you.

Kindly be advised that your complaint ********** regarding the ***** case was referred to the relevant business unit for our representative will be in contact with you for a resolution.

I trust the information provided is in order. Please feel free to contact us should you have any further questions.

Warm regards

Today is the 24/1/2017, and after the Mbudsman for Banking Services refered the matter back to the bank on the 04/1/2017 I still have not received an email or phone call from the bank, regarding this matter.
