Standard Bank - *****ing for their mistakes, causing undue stress & wasting my time!!!!!!

On the 2nd of May, I called all the numbers for Standard Bank. I eventually got through after about 45 minutes of trying and spoke to Berenice who tried to assist as much as she could. There were charges amounting to a total of R318.70 all on the 25th of April and straight after each other. Standard Bank (Berenice) cannot tell me for which transactions these charges relate to, cannot tell me which branch these charges came from, cannot tell me which card number it came from (I have 4 cards on the same account). These charges are for: 1) Insufficient Funds - cash withdrawal @ R9.00 2) fee teller cash withdrawal ##.... @ R46.85 3) Insufficient Funds - cash withdrawal @ R9.00 4) fee teller cash withdrawal ##.... @ R46.85 5) Insufficient Funds 20 - transfer @ R9.00 6) (Account #) - fee - electronic account payment @ R60.00 7) Insufficient Funds 20 - transfer @ R9.00 8) (Account #) - fee - electronic account payment @ R60.00 9) Insufficient Funds 20 - transfer @ R9.00 10) (Account #) - fee - electronic account payment @ R60.00

These are exactly as shown on my bank statement. I opened a ***** claim reference number ********** because it should be impossible to have fees for transactions you have not made.

Today (06 May), Lloid from the ***** department, told me that they cannot do anything about bank charges as there is no actual transaction that it relates to. I must go into my branch to have these charges withdrawn. This is unacceptable as Standard Bank has allowed these charges to go off my account without any relation to a specific transaction and I must waste my time and petrol to solve the mistakes they made!

I am now on the phone with the General enquiries and Trycort has just told me it relates to transactions on the 12th of April. On the 11th, 12th and 13th of April, Standard Bank had issues with their systems and I have already had all those charges reversed. Those charges amounted to R149.20. We will not go into the embarrassment, stress and extra costs I incurred due to Standard Bank not informing me that their systems had a problem. I went to put in petrol on my way to fetch my children from school and my card would not work..... I spent almost an hour and a half at the petrol station on the phone with Standard Bank trying to figure out how to pay for the petrol I had put in. I had the money in my account but I could not access it. Eventually, I found the owner of the station and she allowed me to do an EFT but I had to wait until confirmation was received.....

Wait, Trycort has just informed me that the Midrand branch made these charges and he will conference call me back to ascertain what these charges are for. (06 May @ 12h33)

I have an overdraft facility that I pay a fee for every month as well as interest etc. etc. I am a single mother supporting my mother and four children. Standard bank chose to ***** R318.70 from me for their mistake.

Due to that, a few debit orders were reversed and I was then charged a further R857.00 in fees for "RTD - not provided for" even though I had funds available for most of them. I mean they charged me R61.00 to return a R60.00 debit order even though according to my statement, I had R1,023.73 available without the R318.70 they stole from me.

I am quite disgusted by the way i have been treated by Standard Bank this past month. I have had this account since 2001/2002 and things have gone mostly well BUT the attitude of most of the staff I have dealt with is disgusting to say the least.

My frustration is now over the limit!

Further to the above, on 6 May, Tricort did call me back. He gave me a reference number of ********** 563 and it should have been resolved by 10 May. The above automated response is just that, Standard Bank has not contacted me since the Tricort's return call. Needless to say, I am yet again on the phone with Standard Bank, this time with Riaz as the bank charges **********ly charged to my account on the 25th, issue has not been resolved. Apparently the bank office was waiting on Tricort to give the amounts to be reversed. Still no answer on what these charges were for!!!!!!! Wow! Riaz now tells me after about 10 minutes on hold that these charges were charged erroneously due to a technical issue. So I may have my money back today or tomorrow after them keeping it for 20 DAYS!!!!!

So, I finally got refunded R291.70 on the 16th of May.  I still have not received any explanation on what these charges relate to!  And I would still like to know why they are keeping R27.00!
