Standard Bank shares

I received shares many years ago, as I know nothing about shares and have no interest in trading I subsequently sold them. Assuming that this will be the last of it and never gave it a thought again until recently. Standard Bank has charged me admin fees for long over a year on a R0.00/0 shares account. The excuse: I have not given them instruction to close the account and that it is written in the terms and conditions. Just as a warning to all. Please make sure you give them instructions to close a R0.00/0 shares account. They did not ask if I want to close the account, but in my defense, who keeps an share account open if you have no shares? They have managed nothing on this account but they will charge you admin fees for having no shares, no value and no advice. I am certainly not the only person that this has happened to.
