Standard Bank – Ongoing Customer Care Failures, Lack of Accountability & Need for Collective Escalation

I am posting this publicly to reach other Standard Bank clients who are experiencing similar issues with poor customer care, unresolved complaints, and a complete lack of accountability.

Over an extended period, I have experienced:

Repeated service failures

Endless apologies with no corrective action

Being pushed between departments with no ownership

Requests for information repeatedly, despite it already being provided

Phone calls instead of written responses (which avoids accountability)

No clear escalation path that actually resolves issues

What is most concerning is that this appears to be systemic, not an isolated incident.

As clients, we pay monthly bank charges and transaction fees for professional financial services. Instead, many of us are forced to spend unpaid time:

Chasing reference numbers

Monitoring errors on our accounts

Writing follow-up emails

Defending ourselves against mistakes made by the bank

This is not acceptable and has a real financial and emotional impact on individuals and business owners.

Call to Other Affected Clients

If you are:

Struggling to get issues resolved at Standard Bank

Receiving apologies without action

Being ignored or delayed repeatedly

Experiencing stress, financial impact, or lost time due to bank errors

Please comment on this post or make your own HelloPeter complaint and reference similar experiences.

Next Steps – Collective Escalation

I believe the correct way forward is collective escalation, including:

Formal complaints to the Banking Ombudsman

Escalation to Standard Bank executive management

Documentation for regulatory review

Public accountability through platforms like HelloPeter and social media

Key Question

Why is this allowed to continue? Where are the internal controls? And where is the law protecting clients from repeated service failure and financial prejudice?

Banks are regulated institutions. Clients should not have to fight this hard to receive the service they are paying for.

This post is not about harassment — it is about accountability, transparency, and lawful banking conduct.

If enough affected clients come together, the correct departments will be forced to act.
