Standard Bank most inconvenient for ID applications
Standard bank reps are enticing grade 11 students to open up bank accounts with Std bank to make use of the home affairs office in their branch to get their IDs and passports. We have opened the accounts with Std Bank, done the application on the home affairs website and made payment for the passport. We have tried for two months to get a date at STD DBN office but the website continuously says "no dates available". We typed in dates as per required format, trying day and night to no avail. We have even received an email stating that the application will be cancelled if we don't get to a branch by 7 June 2022. We went to the home affairs office at STD Bank, only to be told that we need to go to one of the home affairs branches as they only have dates available from 27 June. We were also advised that they ONLY open up bookings and release dates at 6am on a Monday morning thus bookings must only be done on a Monday at 6am or it will not give us a date. Yet on the website if you change the branch to Centurion, they have a list of dates and times avail for bookings at the STD Branch and these times are available at any time or day of the week. If bookings can only be made at 6am on Monday for DBN STD offices and at no other time or day, then why was this vital piece of information left out when we opened the account? Standard bank is only interested in getting the account open and fails to inform clients that they need to make bookings at 6am on a Monday, which has placed us in this predicament. The standard bank rep actually approached the school to get business from all students. The school sent out messages to contact her for the accounts but she failed to deliver on her main marketing point ie:Convenience. She promised to come to the school to open all the accounts on a Saturday for convenience then made all sorts of excuses so we had to go in at the Westville branch. She then said she doesn't work Saturdays and continously tried to push for a weekday. She finally agreed to a Saturday but kept saying that she doesn't usually work on a Saturday- let's get one thing straight, she is benefitting from the commission, we got nothing from this process. She then said that we would receive the bank card in a week and would get an sms or email to collect the card. We did not receive any comms and we had to enquire about the card and go into the branch again. So bottom line, no one gives a damn and despite opening an account with Standard Bank, we are still expected to go into a home affairs branch as the office at Std bank can't hear anything nor accept that they did not inform clients about their 6am Monday booking time. If we wanted to go sit in the queue at a home affairs branch, we wouldn't have wasted all the time and inconvenience with standard bank. Plus, we have to have to forfeit the fee we paid, due to the delay in getting a date as a result of the negligence of the bank.
