Standard Bank mobile sim dead on arrival but standard bank still wants to debit subscription for it.
I accepted an offer of a sim card from standard bank which I accepted as I thought it was a good deal. I received it on the 27th of May and activated it on their website. How even after activation, it continued to say sim registration failed. I called the call centre and followed all the instructions I was given but the sim still refused to register. I then called to cancel the contract as the product was dead on arrival. Initially the call centre agent insisted that I must give 30 days notice which was ridiculous to me as the product never worked. I argued my case until the call centre agent agreed to deactivate the line. When I made follow up, I discovered that indeed the sim card had been deactivated but the call centre agent kept on insisting that I will still pay for the sim card because it was in my posession. Now how does one get charged a fee for a non working product? To make matters worse she kept on referring to terms and conditions. What terms and conditions are those where people get charged for a product that was dead on arrival? The lesson in all this is, don't try standard bank mobile. Rather stay with networks that have been tried and tested, however poor some of them are. Standard Bank mobile needs to up its game. My request to standard bank is simple, do not debit from my account as your product never worked. I want to use that money for something that at least works.
