Standard Bank lost documents
I am in the process of selling a property.
On 11/01/2019 I was informed by the attorneys that they awaited the bond deed. On 16/01/2019 the matter was escalated as the document were still not received. On 22/01/2019 I was informed that the attorneys were following up on the document. On 24/01/2019 Standard Bank confirmed they had lost the document. The attorney confirmed that they needed to request a copy from the deed's office.
The purchaser of my property has paid for the property in cash and has since refused to pay occupational rent due to the delay. The delay is due to Standard Bank losing the bond deed.
The attorneys wrote me an apology letter but confirmed that the delay was not on their part but on the part of Standard Bank.
I emailed Standard Bank on 08/02/2019 with all correspondence, a few days later I received a response to say the matter would be referred to a senior. I sent a follow up mail today 21/02/2019 and was advised the matter was referred to a senior. I have still not received any response from Standard Bank.
I am in a situation now where I am paying a bond for a property that has already been paid for in cash.
The service from this bank is shocking to say the least. Luckily I have moved my personal banking away from Standard Bank. In my opinion nobody should bank or take a bond with Standard Bank. If you have a Bond with Standard Bank please consider moving as your bond documents are most probably lost!
