Standard Bank Is Failing Business Clients

I have been a client of Standard Bank since 23 April 1998, and after more than two decades of banking with them, the level of service we are now receiving, particularly from their forex and international payments department — is beyond unacceptable. Our business operates with its own cash flow. We are not asking the bank for loans or credit to make payments. These are our own funds, yet Standard Bank still manages to delay, block, and mishandle legitimate international supplier payments through repeated BOP compliance issues and internal processing failures. Payments confirmed by the bank as “processed” did not reflect with our suppliers for days. As a result, shipments were delayed, vessels were missed, and additional freight costs were incurred — all because of the bank’s inefficiency, not because of any issue on our side. There is zero proactive communication. We are constantly forced to chase updates, request SWIFT traces, and escalate matters just to find out where our own money is. Every time feels like starting from the beginning with someone new who does not understand the urgency or the consequences for our business. The financial and operational damage this has caused is significant — strained supplier relationships, delayed projects all due to Standard Bank’s internal failures. This is not a once-off incident. It is a pattern of poor service, weak systems, and a complete lack of accountability. After banking with Standard Bank since 1998, it is incredibly disappointing to say this: I do NOT recommend Standard Bank to any business that depends on international trade or time-sensitive payments. Your business deserves a bank that can move your money when you need it moved — not one that creates the problem.

Reviewer Update
This matter is still unresolved.
We have now been told multiple times that the payment is “released,” “being followed up,” or “being worked on,” yet we still have not received:
• An MT103 SWIFT confirmation
• Proof of successful transmission
• Confirmation of correspondent bank acceptance
Our supplier still has not received the funds.
This payment was originally processed on 28 January 2026. It is now well beyond normal international settlement timelines. Each response from Standard Bank is another variation of “we are following up,” with no documentation and no accountability.
This is not a minor inconvenience — this has impacted shipment timelines and caused operational and financial consequences for our business.
We require proof of payment, not another holding response.
