Standard Bank is a wolf parading in sheep skin
When Standard Bank offered a payment break to assist people who's income had been affected by Covid and the lockdown I thought it was a brilliant idea and made an enquiry. After visiting the branch and speaking to a consultant on the phone I was informed that the terms and condition of the payment break is that the amount will be divided and added to the remaining loan term which was excellent and I accepted. This was telephonically arranged and for three months there was relief as I could worry about other obligations knowing that my home was safe. Fast forward to almost 2 years later, while trying to open an access bond I am informed at the branch that this cant be done for me because my loan term was extended by 1 year because of the payment holiday. To say I was shocked is an understatement. The branch consultant called Homeloans and the consultant at Homeloans sent an email and requested that the extension be removed and I was informed that this will be effected within 48 hours and 8 days later NOTHING. Now consultants are trying to send me terms and conditions that justify their actions, conditions that where never discussed nor given to me when I made the application. Is this a trap by Standard Bank to keep people from finishing their loans and owning their homes? What other stunt is Standard Bank going to pull to get me to pay this loan for as long as they wish? I want the terms discussed with me to be implemented not this trap and sending me terms and conditions almost 2 years later is not the solution. I should not have to pay for a mistake committed by Standard Bank and it's employees. Fix this and cancel the extension I did not request nor authorize it!!!
