Standard Bank Inefficency and plain old stupidity

At the beginning of July I took time off work to go into Standard Bank Hillcrest Corner. I physically sat down in front of a consultant and closed my account, the reason being that it was a Prestige account and the charges were ridiculous. (Stupidly I opened another cheaper version, which in hindsight was probably a mistake - what other banks can people recommend?) Anyway, after about 20 minutes with the consultant, I left, thinking everything was set up. Now I am receiving SMS's from Standard Bank telling me that the "closed" account is overdrawn. When I phone, I go through to Credit Rehabilitation. Am I going to get a bad Credit Record because of Standard Bank's inefficiency and stupidity? The first time I phoned, their system was down (surprise surprise!) and the second time I asked to be put through to Hillcrest Branch. The phone rang and rang and rang and after several minutes I put the phone down as I have work to do. Now a conundrum, shall I soldier on trying to find someone who knows how to do their job at Hillcrest Branch, or shall I just ignore the SMS's, but adversely affect my credit rating? Truly, I am so tired of the lack of efficiency and ability in most of these big corporations. Instead of wasting all their money on adverts telling us how amazing they are, use that money to train people properly.
