Standard Bank Home Loans charging me for double insurance

I app**** for a home loan through a bond originator. I specifically told her that the estate body corporate has a group insurance and that I will not be taking the home insurance that the bank provides.

The when the lawyers came to sign the deed of sale and bond papers and so forth, I saw that the insurance is included in the form. I then scratched it out and initialed next to it before signing.

I then struggled to get any home loan statements from the bank for years and after finally getting them to update my contact info and send the statements to me, I realized that for the past 2 years they've been deducting insurance on the credit balance, without my consent. To make it worse, not only is it 3x what I am paying to the body corporate for the cover, I am essentially double insured.

I contacted them and after a lot of pain and hassle I got through to the right department. They requested the proof of insurance, which I then obtained from the body corporate and sent to them. They then said that the papers are not correct (which is absurd as its completely valid documents). I told them to speak to the brokers directly and get whatever they need as what I gave them is exactly what they requested. I then also asked why there was insurance on there in the first place as I specifically told the bond originator that I do not want insurance as I got my own and I even went and scratched it out. They then responded that its their default to add it, but if I can get the documents to them where I scratched it out, they can make a plan. I then contacted the lawyers and got the documents to them, but got no response for weeks, even after regularly replying to our email history asking for a update.

If I do not come right here on hellopeter, I am going to the ombudsman next.

It's been weeks and this issue is still not resolved. The agent simply told me to phone home loans department after admitting that there is definitely a problem that needs to be rectified, but she mentioned that only that department can solve it. I then contacted them and they said I need to speak to customer care. It's a back and forth the whole time

When you say as soon as possible, what does that entail? It's been 2 months since I posted this review and 5 months since I originally logged the issue.

Still no new response. I guess I will just need to take this to the ombudsman
