Standard Bank have no clue what Private Banking means and should now quit the game

On numerous occasions there have been several attempts made to deduct money from my cheque account via unauthorized debit orders with a few successfully going through. Each time I have reversed the funds and raised my concerns with Standard Bank regarding the unauthorised debit orders and was promised that some system was going to be out in place to prevent that from occurring.

Earlier this year money was successfully taken from my credit card at a pet shop (when I don’t own a pet), which I had at that time not used in years and the card had to be stopped and replaced. Last week I received a call from the bank to inform me of several transactions that had taken place on sites I have never used. I then agreed for Standard Bank to cancel the card and have waited 7 days for a call from Standard Bank to advise when they would be delivering the card. Finally, this evening I receive a call from a lady called Jane (or Jene) Nel informing me that they would deliver the card for a fee of approximately R160. If I played no role in the transactions which occurred in my bank card, why must I pay for the delivery? What is the close to R500 monthly bank charge for if I am going to pay such charges for delivery of a card Standard Bank should be replacing for the ongoing breach of security on our accounts?

To be fair, most of your branches have closed down which means I would have to drive around looking for a branch and the true value of being a private banking client is now non existent. If there is a fee payable for the card, over and above the private banking fees, I would like to request that you close my account rather and we call it a day. If I am going to pay private banking fees and still have to drive a round looking for branches there is no longer any purpose to continue as a private banking bank. Over and above the general poor service, I also did not enjoy dealing with Jene Nel - which is just the final straw for me. When I tried to understand what this sudden delivery fee was for, she just “I should take it up with my banker and was ready to hang up.”

If I now have to pay for delivery fees as a Private Banking client, clearly Standard Vank have lost the plot of what it means to be a Private Banking client. I for this reason would like to proceed and close the account since it continues to make no substantive positive impact in my life.

I just think the Private Banking offer died a long time at Standard Bak and I now realized its gone and ling buried with no hope for revival. Leave the Private Banking to your Investecs and focus in the retaild Banking, if anything at all. The mess happening in the organization is being felt the most by the customers, which is just unfair - especially if you are only going to just increase the fees for what is poor service, especially in comparison to your competitors.
