STANDARD BANK - FRIEND OR FOE???

In end November / December 2024 I went to Standard Bank Gezina to go and withdraw funds for my mom. I have signing powers on her account for years now. She was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2015 and at that time she gave me signing powers at Std Bank and FNB. She also signed a document in front of a lawyer giving me power of attorney, as we knew she would eventually not be able to function alone. In December Std Bank Gezina informed me that there was a block on her account as it needed to be fica'd. I took all the necessary documents in and then was asked FOR THE FIRST TIME where my mom was. I told them mom has dementia and there is no reason for her to be here. They refused to assist me and told me that I would have to go to the Master of the Courts for a curators letter. This was in December. I told Std Bank I would go in the new year as there is no point going in Dec. My plan was to go just after the 14th of Jan - get new year, birthdays (mine and moms) out the way. I managed to get there very kwikly but havent gotten far with anything as mom ended up back in hospital in Jan. Was discharged. Ended up back again. Was discharged again the 3rd of March 2025 and ended up back again this past Friday. In the meantime Std Bank Gezina said that if I needed to pay for anything - I had to take invoices to them and they would pay it out on our behalf. They did assist 3 times Dec/Jan. This morning I went there as I urgently need nappies and gauze and some other things for mom and now they told me they cant pay out anything at all until the curators letter is sorted. I AM MY MOMS CAREGIVER AND ALTHOUGH I MADE IT TO THE HIGH COURT THE ONE DAY I HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO GET BACK AS RIGHT NOW MY MOM NEEDS ME AND ITS IMPORTANT WITH HER CONDITION THAT I GO REGULARLY TO THE HOSPITAL. So now Std Bank sits with over 3k of moms money which we need and they are THE ONLY BANK that is requesting the curators letter. FNB and Investec accepted the Power of Attorney. The branch manager at Gezina said that they could not accept the Power of attorney letter because - "your mom cant tell us now if she signed that letter under duress." What a stupid, stupid statement. If that is the logic he is using then EVERY will could be contested because with the person dead - how does anyone know if the will was signed under duress??????????? I REALLY need some medical stuff for mom and in my opinion Standard Bank is holding my moms money ransom. I am totally dissatisfied!!!!! In fact even my moms financial advisor thinks the entire situation is ludicrous. Going to the branch regularly one hears customers talking and it seems a lot of ppl are unhappy with Std Banks performance. I CAN TOTALLY UNDERSTAND WHY!!!!!!!
