Standard Bank freezes bank accounts

Went onto internet banking this morning to make a payment. My bank accounts stated that they were not available and hence I could not process a payment. When I called the call centre I was told my account was frozen as I need to go into a branch to present my FICA documentation. I stated that I could not understand why as I have had this account since I was a child and clearly have submitted my FICA documentation. I was told that Standard Bank has decided that their customers must submit their FICA documentation every 6 to 12 months and that failure to do this will result in customers not being able to access their funds. I was not even warned by Standard Bank that my account was frozen. It is ridiculous that I cannot access my money before I physically go into a branch, stand in a queue and present Standard Bank with documents when I have submitted the FICA documents in the past. I do not have the time to do this. Why can this not be done electronically? I am being bul**** by Standard Bank withholding my funds from me without so much as a warning. I shudder to think what will happen to a customer who is overseas and then discovers that they cannot access any of their funds!!!
