Standard Bank ***** Hotline...a Misnomer?
Standard Bank ***** Hotline. Obviously not interested in stopping *****? I discovered, what is likely a perpetration of ***** by a Standard Bank Customer. Naturally, I thought this should be investigated. A customer came to collect items that had been repaired, and brought with him a "Payment Interim Report", showing the payment had been made for the goods. I realise the Interim Report isn't a Proof of Payment, but the story goes on. I allow the goods to leave, not expecting to see the payment reflect immediately, since we bank with FNB. I assumed the bookkeeper had not posted the payment, and didn't worry when he arrived for further goods, a week or 2 later. This time he brought with a PROOF OF PAYMENT, on the Standard bank Letterhead, albeit from a different account name. I allowed him to take the goods. A few days later, my bookkeeper queried why BOTH invoices had not been paid. No money had reached my bank account for either. After several requests and phonecalls to the customer, and many promises, he has blocked our numbers, and is no longer at his address. I became suspicious, and decided to check the options with the Standard Bank ***** department. I explained my concerns to the agent and gave him the Reference Number for the Proof Of Payment. He acknowledged that the reference number was incorrect, and didn't exist - and then suggested that I CONTACT THE ACCOUNT HOLDER. Surely if someone is altering Proof of Payment documents, they are UNLIKELY to want to go in to the bank, and prove their guilt? I realise that Standard Bank can not be help responsible for the monies lost, but i would like this company/person to be investigated, as he may do this to others!
