Standard Bank discriminates against the elderly and poor and who have no communication between their divisions
Standard Bank by closing their branches and retrenching staff are actually discriminating against the elderly and the poor. The elderly because they are used to personal contact and do not like electronic banking and the poor because they cant afford computers or smart phones. I notice that Capitec Bank are opening more and more branches and there are very long ques of people outside their banks, especially at month end. Maybe the other banks have much to learn
After being with Standard Bank for over 35 years I have recently become aware that I am not a customer of Standard Bank at all. This is because Standard Bank have the very outdated business approach of working in silos. So if you bank with Standard Bank you actually are customer of the Banking Division. If you have a credit/debit card you are a customer of the Card Division and if you are a UCount member you are customer of UCount, if you have money invested with Stanbic then you a customer of Stanbic . The problem is that each of these divisions of Standard Bank work entirely separately ( in Silos) and never look at you as a whole customer. This was recently made clear to me when I made an investment in Standard Bank Fixed Deposits of over R500,000 but in the same month I received a threatening email advising me that if I did not pay my R25 minimum credit card payment my credit card would be cancelled (it actually was cancelled) and my credit rating downgraded. In the same month my UCount tier was also downgraded although I had made the large investment in Fixed Deposits. Also in October I could not open my Money Market account using my correct ID number. Standard Bank has admitted that many customers are having this problem and their IT department are working on it. Does a bank who has no regard for their elderly and poor customers, totally works in silos with no communication between their divisions and whose IT department really sound like a bank that is "Moving Forward". I really dont think so.
