Standard Bank Credit Cards Cash Finance Charge

I have been trying to get a recon from Stndard Bank on my credit card, as no one at Standard Bank can explain the cash finance charge and how it works. It seems to me that you pay a very high interest rate on your monthly instalment and then on top of that you pay a cash finance charge. So every month you owe them more. I was promised a statement 2 weeks ago and nothing has arrived> As I told the customer service lady I have a legal right to understand what i am paying, so I am not paying until I understand what is going on. I also have a Nedbank credit card and use cash on that and that cards payments look nothing like Standard Banks. We are without doubt being "legally "****** from. Being told to read the Terms and conditions is a not an answer. The bank staff don't understand this either, surely SB has some responsibility in making it clear to there customers what they are signing up for.

HELLO.
PLEASE SEE THE MAIL I RECEIVED IN RESPONSE TO MY REQUEST.
AND MY AMSWER.
I DONT NEED A PHONE CALL - JUST AN EMAIL WITH THE INFORMATION REQUESTED BELOW.

I have just gone onto your terms and conditions for credit cards, and this is the explanation you offer for cash finance charges. Which doesn't explain how it works either.

  • on the amount of each cash advance (for example, cash withdrawals, travellers cheques, foreign exchange, fuel purchases, any electronic account payments, transfers and casino chip purchases) if the advance results in a debit balance on your account. Interest is calculated from the date of the cash advance until the amount is repaid in full; and

Dear Miss Ellard
Thank you for submitting your complaint on Hello Peter.
Kindly find the below

The credit card is meant for swipe and online transactions. Interest (cash finance charge) is charged on all cash related transactions namely ATM cash withdrawals, cash advances from branches, electronic account payments, inter account transfers, the purchase of travellers cheques, as well as petrol purchases, from each transaction date to the day before the respective debits are paid (This charge will appear on your statement every month until you settle the cash transaction you made).

Kindly be advised that all future cash transactions will incur daily interest, that will be charged when your statement closes.

I hope this clarifies your concerns.

Kind regards

Hello.
This does not answer my question.
In fact this is the answer you get from everyone…….
Which shows no understanding of how it works.
I want a reconciliation of my account, which explains what I have spent in cash and none cash items.
What interest I am being charged on both my payments and the cash finance charge you apply.
I want to understand how much of the cash draw has been paid off, how much remains and how long it will take to complete paying for the cash.
Until I have these answers I reserve the right to not pay my credit card.
My consumer rights protected in the National Credit Act states that I have the right to :
To understand all fees, costs, interest rates, the total instalment and any other details
Which I don’t.
Thank you
ALISON ELLARD

Hello.

You are now threatening to take me too a lawyer. One month later still not proper reply.
(This charge will appear on your statement every month until you settle the cash transaction you made).

you are saving that if I make a cash withdrawal -you are charging me what you a call a Charge - which is the maximum monthly interest the reserve bank allows you. You do not apply ANY of what you call a CHARGE to the principal amount owed, and as you call your card a revolving credit card, the amount owed has no term to be paid off in - so you can apply your CHARGE until i die - and would have made A HUGE amount in CHARGES.

Can you show me where in your terms and conditions you explain this so the consumer realises that unless he pays the FULL AMOUNT of his credit card debit in one go, you intend make him pay for the full duration of his life.

Because that is exactly what you have said above.

Please can you direct me the caluse. in the National Credit act that allows for this kind of charging

Hello again.

I am posting again on hellopeter so that I can have proof of how many time and for how long I have been asking the same question of Standard Bank. I am sure these answers are automated - because it is quite clear that Standard Bank doesn't care about it's clients and clearly does not have any one working in the bank that actually understands how the bank does it charges.
It is remarkable that the level of service and understanding is this bad.

So here we are 6 months later and still no answer - you must be exhausted from working around the clock for that long. It is truly astounding that you are not able to explain this to me.The mind boggles with the level of deception , lack of interest and stupidity.
