Standard bank cheque account and credit card

I had two accounts with Standard bank, a cheque and credit card. My salary was paid into the cheque account monthly. I then decided to close the cheque account because I could no longer afford the account due to the monthly interest rates. In 2098, I went to my branch to close the account and the teller who was assisting me, told me that the account is closed but did not give me proof therof. He insisted that he has closed the account and I went away. Two years later I received a call from the bank's collection department to inform me that my cheque account was owing R12 000 because of monthly charges. I then went to the branch which confirmed that I owe the said amount. I tried to explain that I closed the account in 2008 and it was havingbaround R300 by that time to covet that month's interest. Unfortunately I did not get any assistance and I then made arrangements and and paid the amount owed.

Credit card I app**** for debt review in 2009 and by that time the credit card was owing around R5000. The bank decided to hand over the account to collection department and I was frequently harassed telephonically by a lady from collections. I made arrangement to pay because my debt review was not correctly administerd I asked the lady from collections to send me a statement of this account but I did not get any. I then started paying the credit card for about 5 years and I was not updated of the amount owed. I went to the branch and was told that the account is no longer in their system. I then decided to stop payments because I did not know how much I pay. I was surpised yesterday to receive a statement which reflects that I was owied the bank around R20 000 with added interets of R22 000 as it was handed over, The collectors were silent all along after I requested for statementand its only yesterday that I received a statement reflecting a balance owed of R8000, and thus happened because my attorney digged for this information so she can clear my name from debt review. I am really disappointed with the bank, I ask myself as to how aan amount borrowed can have interests that are above the amount iwed. I am slo disappointed that I thought the account is paid up but it has now resurfaced with an amount of R8000 due by me
