Standard Bank charges inactive acc over R4000

I would like to express how disappointed I am with Standard Bank as they've handed over my bank charges over an inactive account for over 3 years. I took steps to have the account closed at the Standard Bank branch at the Liberty Midlands Mall in Pietermaritzurg. The consultant who was assisting me refused telling me that I am obliged to pay off the charges that have accumulated to over R4500. What I found most frustrating is how insensitive the consultant was towards this matter, irregardless of how much in distress I during our conversation. I left having not been assisted at all. To my surprise today I received a call from Norman and Associates notifying me to settle the amount by R3000, which I cannot afford. The other banks that I have banked with at the time did not implement these ********* practices of Standard Bank. The worst part is that I never received any communication with regards to this until there was a ***** case that involved another financial service provider, and it was resolved by the other institution. As for Standard Bank they have been very disappointing. FBN closed my account when it became inactive, Capitec does not charge me for having an account with them till this day these were cheque accounts too. How do I pay for a service that I have not used? I stopped using the account why was I not notified about these charges? Now I am expected to just pay?
