Standard Bank "Cash Voucher"

I created an account today to leave this review because I feel other people need to know.

I needed to use the new feature on the STD bank app to "send a cash voucher" as my wife was stranded with only a STD bank ATM near her and no bank card or cash.

I googled whether there was any fees to send a cash voucher and on the STD bank website they only mentioned "a small fee". I looked for an hour but couldn't see any real figure or %. I eventually just decided to give it a shot thinking it can't be more than drawing money from another service providers ATM (R9.50 standard fee). I read carefully through the Terms and Conditions and again couldn't find any indication of any fees or how much it would be.

So I thought "lets just try it". I enter my wifes details. Cell number, add a pin and off we go.

1. My wife gets an sms with a voucher number with no pin. So she now needs to ask me what the pin is. If my phone died at that moment she wouldn't be able to draw the money. 2. It gives me the option to share with her on whatsapp. Again only an amount and a useless voucher number. 3. They charged me R10.50 for this transaction. R10.50. More than it would have cost to just use an ABSA or FNB ATM.

This is to send money to a STD bank ATM. FNB has this as a free service. Free.

Its just unacceptable that they don't give you this info anywhere, not even in their T&C's. 10% is something I would want to know so I shared it here today so everyone else knows.

Thanks for you time in reading this. Hopefully I saved you from being charged ridiculous rates. If I had decided to send more money, who knows what the fee would have been.
