STANDARD BANK CANNOT KEEP YOUR MONEY SAFE

Received and sms from Standard Bank FICA Dept stating that if we don't FICA our account within 2 days it will be suspended and eventually blocked / closed. Clicked on the link and nothing happened. Received a call very shortly afterwards from Standard Bank FICA Department from a man stating I need to go onto the app right away to do the FICA. He quoted my card number to me. I did so there and then and the app immediately said "something went wrong". I immediately told him I don't trust this phone call and that I am cutting the call - which I immediately did. The very next morning at 6am we saw 8 sms's from Standard Bank telling us that the 8 TAKEALOT orders are now done ????? The total of the 8 transactions were R107,450 !!!!!! So Standard Bank allowed 8 *****ulent and unauthorised transactions totalling R107,450 to go through our account !!!!! I immediately called the bank to stop/block the account and apply for new cards. We were told the investigation will take 10 days at which point we would receive a full outcome of the investigation. On day 10 I called and was told I need to waite another 2 days. On that 12th day I called and was told to waite till 16:30 that day to get an email. Needless to say we received no such report back by the end of day 12. The following working day we received a call and letter saying that the outcome of the investigation shows absolutely no fault from Standard Banks side. Further that they have proof that I received and OTP authorising all 8 TAKEALOT transactions. Further that they are admitting that 3 of the 8 transactions took us over our overdraft limit so they will refund that amount. Further that they will offer us 25% of the balance of the 5 remaining transactions in full and final settlement. That if we are agreeable to this then when we sign for it, we have to agree to it being completely confidential. That if we don't keep it confidential, that we will be held liable to re-pay the 25%. Further that if we do not accept the final settlement offer then we have a right to escalate our matter to their ***** escalations complaints department; and after that to the Ombudsman. We told them swiftly that we will NOT be accepting any such settlement offer and that we give them 2 days to send us the proof of the supposed OTP, 3 days to tell us what actions they are going to be taking against the *****sters who might have taken the money, and 4 days to repay us the balance of the remaining 5 amounts. We responded to the investigation outcome letter email we received from them to tell them this.

We received no response from our email.

After the 4 days we had given them, we called and said we want to now escalate it to the ***** escalations department as we had been told we could. The lady we spoke with that day said she had already done so on the day we had sent our email. That she would send me the email where she had forwarded it to them so that I can take matters further. She did this, and I forwarded her email to the ***** escalations department again to say we notice we have received no response and that we now give them formal notice that we are sending this matter to the Ombudsman and social media far and wide. Thus this review. Standard Banks systems are COMPLETELY ill-equipped to keep your money safe guys....... I can't comment on other bank because we've had this account with Standard bank for 40 years now.
