Standard Bank - can not close account

Closing an account seems impossible. "Closed" my student achiever account in early 2016. The branch, Tyger Manor in Bellville, cut up my card and gave me a slip to get the last few Rands from my account at the teller. To my surprise, the account never got closed and I am still being charged a monthly fee as well as interest on the amount that is now in the red. I have emailed numerous time, phoned and been to the bank but still, the account can not be closed. Apart from all of this the service and feedback on email queries easily takes more than a week for a response. Reminds me why I left Standard Bank.
