Standard Bank at it again
Wish i can give them 0 stars.
I was charged a R100 honoring fee because my account was 28 cents in arrears. This is absurd, and when i called customer care, arrogance has a new name. Standard should be ashamed. R100 for 28cents? Your logic is poor at the best of days, I regret moving over to Standard Bank. The biggest mistake of my life.

17 Oct 2025, 18:00Dear Stephan,
Thank you for reaching out to us.
An honoring fee is charged when a transaction is processed despite there being insufficient funds in your account. This usually applies to transactions that had not yet been banked by the merchant at the time.
The bank covers the shortfall to ensure the transaction is not declined, and the fee reflects that service.
We recommend reviewing your statement for any transactions that may have been banked late while there were insufficient funds available.
Please also note that service fees charged to your account are deducted from your available balance, including any latest and available funds.
Kindest regards,
Standard Bank Hello Peter Team

18 Oct 2025, 09:59this is such a generic response. I wish I had never moved to Standard Bank. Your service is appalling, your employees are arrogant, and you charge a person R100 for his account being in arrears by 28 cents. Stop talking down to me. I'm not an idiot. You take people`s money. i never consented to having an overdraft. Monies going into a minus constitute an overdraft, which i do not have.
Look, I understand working for a bank, you don't actually work, you just sit around doing nothing. so when people have a query, your uneducated staff does not know how to handle anything, like your poor response, it's disgusting how you talk down on people.
I wish Standard Bank would close their doors and go sell cellphone chargers on the side of the road
