Standard bank and it’s failure to protect personal information

Standard Bank never ceases to amaze me. This is the second complaint that I’m making in March and I haven’t even been a customer of Standard Bank for a month. So after the last complaint I lodged I was told a consultant was gonna call me but that never happened but I let that slide, but this is something I cannot let go.

So after my the complaint I lodged on Hello Peter, I went to the branch a day later and found that the card had been delivered and I spoke to Maditshaba and the branch manager Mr. Mokoena and they were so friendly and courteous, they apologized for the inconvenience that was caused and my mind was at ease cause my problem had been sorted. The drama then began when I was updating the limits on my card.

It was found that your IT department incorrectly linked my card to a business account, I had to wait over an hour for this to be sorted, Irene from the branch eventually sorted this matter out after being on the phone with help desk, Irene even knocked off late because she was rectifying an error that was done by your IT department. It was through Irene’s effort that made me keep my Account with Standard Bank.

Today I went to collect my gold cheque card at the Southgate branch and when I got home to activate the card on my internet banking I noticed that my card was again linked to certain organization affiliated with the government, and this is a concern for me because clearly someone can have unauthorized access to my account and use my funds cause of Standard Bank’s incompetency. Does Standard Bank know about the POPI Act and the implications of not protecting personal information? I am really disturbed and considering moving to another bank that has the ability to protect my money as well as my personal information. This is shocking!
