Standard Bank allowed ********** debit order that I declined to give consent to

I received a message from Standard Bank on my phone a few days for a debit order that had been registered and asking whether I consent to the debit order. I didn't recognise it so I said no. Today I get a message from Standard Bank that the debit order mandate has now been set up against my account. How does this happen? I have signed nothing, I have not consented when Standard Bank asked me to respond? Why does Standard Bank allow *****? And then of course, when I call the ***** hotline, nobody answer after 20 minutes. Very much useless.
