Something wrong with humanity, banks causing rise in debt problems.

I have been a Std Bank client for 34 years. As a single parent I needed financial assistance to cover the many bills to raise children, providing their school materials, uniforms, medical bills, cost of living, vehicle repairs etc. Due to interest I was permanently paying but the capital was never paid off, the interest was equal to the payment. The amount of interest I have paid to Standard bank has paid many employee salaries I'm sure, and if it wasn't for interest rates, my credit card, RCA, and cheque account overdraft would have been paid probably 5 X over. I was retrenched in September 2016 with a package and also cashed in one third of my pension. I couldn't pay off my debts with my retrenchment package as I needed it for living expenses until I could secure a permanent job so I continued to pay the monthly installments. First I put in a claim due to retrenchment on all three accounts, I was told the accounts would be covered for 6 months but I had to claim 3 months at a time, but for some reason my credit card account was not covered. I don't know why because when the insurance was app****, I was informed it would cover all 3 accounts. When the time came to claim the next 3 months again I was told the claim was finalized and there was nothing due to me. That is when the fun and games started. I embarked on a 2 year "tennis match" going backward and forward from department to department, went in to see the consultant, spoke to the supervisor, asked for an appointment with the branch manager, and I was told to e-mail the request. The correspondence carried on for almost 2 years and still no appointment with someone in authority to follow up on the bank's failed obligations & I wanted to negotiate to reduce my monthly payments. It has now been 3 years since I have been retrenched, the bank is debiting R3000 to R4000 per month, at this rate my funds will be exhausted within 3 months. After spending a lot of money on my cell phone simply being on hold whilst being transferred, I sent a complaint to all the e-mail addresses I had that I was going to the media. I was contacted by the branch manager I wanted to see and he set up an appointment with me. He was very eager to assist and spent a whole afternoon on the phone to various departments trying to reach a solution, but due to the utmost ridiculous procedures set down for everyone, managers no longer have the authority to negotiate or make decisions. Although I haven't found a job in 3 years, I have still maintained payment on my debts and everything was up to date. My requests were: 1. Freeze my accounts and stop the debit orders on the loans. 2. Stop charging interest and allow me to pay off the capital amounts outstanding at a more affordable monthly rate to allow me to extend my living expenses costs by another 8 months to a year. This would extend my time to find work. The bank cannot assist me or even negotiate with me first of all because I am living off savings and I do not have a monthly income and also because my accounts are up to date. When they fall into arrears, their collections dept. deals with it for 6 months, then it goes to legal for another 6 months to try and recover the debt and then I can negotiate when there are tons of penalties and interest on penalties added on. So to recap: Because I have kept a good credit rating and paid my debt, the bank cannot negotiate with me.... Because I don't have a monthly income, I cannot negotiate with their in-house debt review dept or any debt review dept to pay R400 per month, to avoid being blacklisted which could affect my chances of employment; but they will instead keep on debiting R4000 per month and deplete my resources, till I have nothing left to live on and force me to file for sequestration and be black listed. WHERE is the logic??? That is why South Africa is in such a mess with debt and people are becoming destitute and homeless! On top of that, the call centre agents keep phoning me to offer me an increase on my credit card limit which is already on R90,000 and other services of credit.
