Selling of personal information to 3rd parties

I am receiving spam sms's and unsolicited phone calls addressed to me and my partner from 3rd parties. The only supplier who is in possession of this particular information is Std Bank Homeloans. they were never given permission to provide this information to other parties and it is my understanding of the Consumer Protection Act that it is against the law to sell personal information to 3rd parties for the purpose of direct marketing. To add insult to injury, when these people are asked to remove my name and number from their database I am either shouted at or the phone is thrown down in my ear. If i was looking for insurance, a car, medical aid, a panel beater, a mobile provider who can save me money, i would do the work myself - i don't need my details to be sold to 40 different companies who then on-sell it to another lot of companies who then abuse me some more!!! This practice has to stop!!! my details are provided in confidence for a transaction between two parties - not to be abused by one party for its financial gain and for me to endure endless abuse. That does not translate into a fair and equitable transaction between two parties.
