Ridiculous bank charges for an Student Account.
I went to the standard bank branch which is in Durban the service consultant tried her best to help but her hands were tied because my account query had to be transferred to Standard bank ABC branch in Durban west street. She sent the manager of the ABC branch an email stating that I am complaining that how can I be charged R1476.44 for bank charges for an student achieve account. The manager of the ABC branch sent an email back to the consultant that was helping me in durban north branch that they will on reverse R500 back into my account. So I was not pleased and I told the consultant that she must tell the manager of ABC branch. The consultant sent an email to the manager telling her to please call me about my query. The manager sent one of the team leaders to call me and tell me that: 1. It is my responsibility to follow up on my account. 2. They will reversed the R500 and nothing would be done about this. 3. They charged so amount of money because I no longer qualify for student account since I am 25 years. I then told the team leader that its' a pity that I am standard bank did not communicate with or neither did they notify me that I will have to change my account and that my bank charges will change to R88.76 per month. The team leader told that I should not shoot the messenger. This is the email that I sent to the branch manger.
Dear Portia Mthembu,
I hope you well, yesterday I received a call from one of your workers from the Durban ABC branch since, I was not happy with the R500 that was reversed into my account. I went to Durban North Branch and they told me that you said that I will have to settle the amount of R976.44. Firstly, I do not understand why do I have to settle this amount. So you are telling me that my bank charges are R88.76 per month (976.44 / 11 months). Which I clearly don't understand how. The lady that called me said that it was my duty to follow up on my account since it's a student account. How was I suppose to know that my account at the age of 24 years they will be changes done. When I opened the account at your branch the consultant that helped me did not state such. Why as standard bank did you not notify me that since I am over 24 years now changes will be done on to my account. There was no communication sent to me. As a customer I have every right to question that cause I opened an account with Standard bank because I trusted you as bank. It still does not make sense to me that an unemployed person who was a student this year like me has to be charged so much for bank charges and please explain to me how? I am really not happy with this and please rectify it for and explain to me how? It's pity that standard bank is able to send communication when your system is offline but you can't send communication when changes are done on to my account at all.
