Required to come to branch during COVID-19 crisis

It’s absolutely shocking that Standard Bank still expects customers to “come to the branch” to close an account during this COVID-19 pandemic. Surely this is irresponsible? I even asked whether they could at least freeze the account for the time being and the customer “care” agent said “no, you have to go the branch, unfortunately that’s the only way”. I will NOT be going to any branch, nor will I be paying the monthly bank charges that will be going off for the next few months until the COVID-19 crisis slows down. Another reason why I’ve left this bank. Very slow to react.
