Request to close account

I had a student account with standard bank later on while I was not using it, it accumulated charges of +/- R2000 then I paid the amount and request to close the account, only to find out early this month that the account owe R5336,01. When I query at the branch they said it's my word against the consultant because their system doesn't show that I requested to close the account. This is so frustrating
