Red tape at its best

Yeaterday I had the misfortune of dealing with the staff of the Brackenhurst branch, the gentleman I dealt with , name unknown, suffice it to say his desk was the 2nd one, later on he brought in his manager Cheryl to talk to me .

My wife had passed away on 20/1/2017 and had, had a credit card with Standard.

Having paid off the card that morning I wanted them to close the card.

This he said could not be done there was a procedure to be followed.

I was to provide a death certificate, id. of my wife and letter of executor ship.

Told him I did not have the letter of executorship but gave him certified copies of the death certificate and id..

Was told this was not not acceptable he wanted the originals which I provided. and he made copies of

Then told that without the letter of executorship the card could not be closed.

I then told him that I was not in a position to provide this and was not prepared to give it to him at a later stage.

He then phoned card div. who advised the deposit did not reflect on the account . Understable as I had made an EFT deposit that morning through my own bank Nedbank and it takes time for it to work through the banking system.

In any case I was not following procedure and till such time as this happened the card woul not be closed . I then told him in that case any further costs I would not meet,

He then went to fetch his manager Cheryl as he said I was not prepared to cooperate with them in following procedure.

She told me that me that this was the way it was and that until I provided them with what they wanted the account would stay open incurring further costs.

She would advise their deceased department by e mail of this , cc to me at my e mail, had given them this earlier.

Told her they must do what they want to do and left.
