R8000 Unauthorised Debit Order- Processing

R2000 was deducted from my bank account without my authorisation by MTN between April and June.

As per bank policy business should have a mandate from customers authorising them to collect funds from their bank account.

Standard bank did not follow its own policy or that which are required by the credit act to verify debit order verification.

No authorised debit order could be produced by MTN and Standard bank for this deductions.

Standard bank proceed in letting money be deducted from my account *******ly.

Standard bank fail in rectifying their negligence and then instruct me to speak to the ******* (MTN) that took the money to get it back,

I reversed the debit orders that fell in the 40 day period.

Now standard bank want to charge me R270 each for the other two debit orders that is older than 40 days.

Further to that they want me to pay to dispute it and then cannot guarantee that I will get my money back which they allowed to be *******ly deducted from my account.

Standard bank customers must on an escalating scale pay more and more for the negligence of its staff.

This is the response of Standard bank. Easy sloppy way out:
Good day Carlo Roman
We appreciate you bringing your concerns to our attention and we apologise for the delayed response to your email.
At the outset I need to apologize for the frustration this matter has caused you.
regarding the workings of a debit order, we attach hereto a copy of the relevant OBS bulletin, which describes the complex nature of a debit order in detail.
Contrary to public belief the bank has indeed no obligation to verify the authenticity of any debit order, and as such the bank merely fulfils the function of a payment facilitator where any debit order is presented for payment. The bank also does not initiate any external debit order. A debit order is an agreement between the accountholder and an external company in which the customer would authorise such service provider to debit an amount from his/her bank account for services provided. A debit order is not a contract between you and the bank, and the latter is not a party to the agreement at all.
In the event of you disputing a debit order the bank will query the validity of the transaction with the company that debited your account, as per our laid down process.
As such the account holder indeed has the responsibility to regularly scrutinize his/her account statement(s) and bring to the bank’s attention any unauthorized debit order. As per the relevant industry rules around unauthorized debit orders such should be brought to the bank’s attention within 40 days of the debit order being processed.
We understand the fact that the issue around such unauthorized debit orders is indeed a frustrating situation, however as per the reasons described above it is solely in the hands of the customer to have same cancelled and disputed where required, within the prescribed time lines. Please also note that the bank will charge the amount applicable to the transaction and you will need to take it up with the company to have your account credited with the fees charged
I trust that the above suitably clarifies the bank’s position herein.

At local bank level and telephonically. You have the attitude that you doing us a favour with the exubetant bank fees you charging for fixing your incompetence.
