Questionable Charges by Standard Bank Card Division

My wife and I spent two nights at Emerald Resort & Casino in Vanderbijlpark a few weeks ago. We had dinner at the Breeze restaurant in the hotel complex on both nights, and paid for these meals with our Standard Bank credit card. On receiving my statement from the bank, I noticed that there were two charges for a "Cash advance fee", and a "Finance charge". Having not taken any cash advances, and having settled in excess of my outstanding balance, I queried these charges with the bank and was informed that "buying casino chips" was the same as a cash advance and this had attracted fees in question. Despite numerous attempts to stress that we had not bought casino chips and that these amounts were paid for the meals at the Breeze restaurant, they refuse to reverse these fees, falsely accusing me of having "bought casino chips". This includes having lodged an objection with the Complaints department. So every person who eats at Breeze Restaurant at Emerald Resort & Casino and pays with a Standard Bank credit card will be subjected to these fees. Standard Bank will therefore earn income on fees charged for something which is not correct or applicable. Surely this cannot be legal!! It is certainly questionable, never mind being grossly unfair.

So, to all Standard Bank credit card holders who had a meal at any of the restaurants owned by the resort, check your statements and see if you have also been charged for "purchasing casino chips", and if you have been, join in this protest. And any people who go there in the future, don't use your Standard Bank credit card to pay for your meals.
