Powerball *******

Once again, Standard Bank is not paying for Powerball and Powerball Plus winning numbers that have been taken on their banking App. What actually happens to these winnings - totally dishonest and certainly not ethical.

Reviewer Update

On 07 May I received a call from a Public Relations employee of Standard Bank apologizing for the problem. She admitted that the bank was experiencing issues with their App, but was unable to give me a time-line when it would be resolved. Winnings from at least 2 weeks ago have still not been credited to my account. I have noticed that other customers have also posted the same issue on Hellopeter, including for Lotto winnings.

As an analogy, if a concert promoter was selling tickets, and was aware that the star of the show was unwell, and could not guarantee that the concert would take place, surely the ethical thing to do would be to inform the public, and stop selling tickets until he knew if and when the concert would take place.

Standard Bank continues to let their customers use the App, knowing there are problems, and worse of all, have kept quiet, and have not made any statement in the public domain. On top of that, they are retaining the winnings in their coffers. Is this ethical behavior by one of South Africa's largest banking institutions?

I am sure that many people do not check the Powerball and Lotto results, but rely on the SMS notifications from the bank if they have won anything. Personally, on occasions, I have not received SMS's from Standard Bank, but have won, as well as received the SMS's as before. In both instances, over the last 2 to 3 weeks, I have not been paid. Where is the money, what is the quantum, and will Standard Bank reimburse their customers with interest once the issue has been resolved.

I invite their CEO, Sim Tshabalala, as well as their CIO, Jörg Fischer, to investigate the problem, and inform their customers publicly of the time-line when they will have it resolved.
