Potential ***** risk - Standard Bank does not have internal security controls for FICA on client accounts

I received an text message from Standard Bank to update FICA on my bank account in early 2017. After updating my FICA, a Standard Bank employee changed my FICA documents and replaced them with another client's ID copy (without informing me or requesting permission to do so). I picked up the issue in June 2017 after getting bank account statements from an Autobank machine - I noticed my bank account was reflecting someone else's name as the account holder. Following a branch visit, the account was rectified. On 21 August 2017, a Standard Bank employee changed FICA documents on my account once again - without my request or authorization. I became aware of this issue on Saturday, 4 November 2017 when I went to collect my new credit card and discovered that the envelope was addressed to someone else. I instructed the branch service consultant not to make any changes to my account because I wanted to report the matter to Standard Bank's ***** department.

On Monday, 6 November 2017 when I called to report the matter I was told that a Standard Bank employee had made changes to my account again on 6 November 2017.

Standard Bank clearly does not have any internal controls to prevent staff members from changing account information and FICA documents without notifying customers and without authorization. It is scary to think that credit cards can be issued to any stranger, using my banking details and a stranger's ID copy.
