Poor Service and ATM installation
I am sending this motivational letter to SBSA on behalf of my client ( Musawenkosi Chamane T/A Scott Lounge ) who has been my client for more than 18 years. I am his accountant and tax advisor; I have also worked for SBSA from 2003 to 2015 and I resigned as a Business Area Manager my personal number A132994 based in Western Cape. The main reason for this letter is that the client would like to have a stand-alone ATM to be installed in his business premises which is unbonded and very secured. The client is running three businesses which are (Liquor Outlet, Tavern/Pub and Mini supermarket ). The client has been banking with SBSA since he opened his businesses and I recommended to him to open business account with SBSA as I was employed by SBSA that time. The business account is well conducted without any recent adverse on record. I have also indicated to the client that SBSA wouldn’t install ATM where there is no potential of generating revenue, based on my experience that I have gained working for SBSA Business Banking. I fully support the installation of stand ATM as there is a lot of revenue and other fee income that can be generated by SBSA, I am stating that because I am working very close with the owner and I have full understanding of his three business as I have install accounting systems and I know the market. This business is bordering Ashdown Township and partial rural area of Kwampumuza. The nearest ATM is 3KM’s away from the businesses is which in Edendele Mall. SBSA also needs to take into account that by having an ATM there, the residences from both areas (Ashdown township and Kwampumuza ) would view this as a development in their areas as there would be no need to walk 3km’s to go to the ATM. I would also like bring this into your attention that 35% of the SBSA merchant transactions are made up of cash bank requested by customers which inconvenience the client some of these transactions are not immediately deposited/transferred into his business account. Another thing that SBSA needs to know is that 75% people in those areas use Capitec cards which give them problems where they cant swamp their Capetic cards and their can not get cash back therefore ATM will fit in that space. Due to the fact that there is no ATM around the area SBSA is losing revenue and fees that would have been again by both parties ( SBSA and Client). Please look at what the business has contributed to SBSA in terms of revenue earned over the years, based on my experience I can indicate to you that SBSA is under servicing the client ( The client is using one merchant machine for 3 businesses as there are next to each other, The client has a overdraft with SBSA which has not been increased in years, The client is planning to revamp his business premises which are unbonded, The client has a personal private banking account with FNB and lastly the client is in the process of change his car that he use for business purposes). This is potential revenue for SBSA. The reasons for declining the application for ATM are unclear to us hence I have decided to pen down this letter. We believe that there is a potential revenue and fees that can be earned by both parties (SBSA and Client), as there was no one who came out to assess the area and business to do a detailed market analysis. The client is in process of approaching FNB for the ATM however I have requested him to put it on hold until SBSA reconsider their decision.
