Poor Service

I have been a Standard Bank client for 30 years! I tried to print a statement at an ATM. After doing the whole request the ATM machine shut down and kept my Card. I went to reception and the lady told me to go to enquiries as they would resolve my problem. So in the que I went. Several minutes in the que and I realised my ID was not with me. I left the que and when I got to the exit the reception lady gave me my card. So I thanked her and asked why I had to waste time at enquiries? No comment.

I had a query on an account and phoned customer services at around 12:00. It is an RCA account that had been opened in the 1990s. I have not used it for many years and have only paid a fee of R4 a month for Life insurance during all those years. All checks and clearances performed, I enquired about a R57 loan service fee being charged on my account although my account was paid up. The lady answered that it was a standard fee to keep the account open. If I did not want to pay the fee I had to close the account! I asked to speak to her supervisor. Mr Kaya Gesha confirmed that the fee was indeed payable. He threatened that he would now log a request to have the service fees loaded on my account which had not been charged for in the past several years. I told him that I refuse to pay it.

I phoned the private banking department and a very rude lady, Me. Saajida Ebrahim told me to either pay the fees or close my accounts. Thanks Standard Bank! Must I close my accounts?

If I could trust that any other bank would care, I would move all my accounts to them immediately. Unfortunately, that is a pipe dream...
