Playing the blame game. Once again.

I have spent 3,5 hours at Standard Bank today, and they couldn't even after all that time reassure me that the problem is resolved. I have moved my account to FNB a year ago, and still Standard Bank is causing me problems.

My mother added me as a beneficiary last month to our family trust account from which my monthly allowance is paid. My allowance never came. We went to Standard Bank today to sort out the problem, just to find that I'm not a beneficiary anymore. I seem to have vanished from their system. But 'the fault is definitely not on their side'. Apparently, FNB rejected the amount paid before I was removed as beneficiary. Off to FNB we went, just to find that FNB never even received the amount! Went to Standard Bank again, and heard from the Branch Manager that this type of thing has happened before, with accounts from Absa. So who is actually to blame at the end of the day?

Still, no one can explain how a beneficiary of a trust just vanished from their system. That in itself is extremely worrying.

Somehow, the fault never lies with Standard Bank.

My father opened the trust account at Standard 30 years ago. My mother, my three sisters, my brother and I all opened accounts at Standard Bank as it became necessary. There has since then not been one of the (previously) 10 accounts that went without problems. Every other week we get a call to provide yet another copy of ID, proof of residence or signature from the account holders. Again, the famous line we always get from Standard Bank, 'the fault isn't on their side'. It seems to be in their normal course of business to lose confidential documents.

Three of my siblings and I have since then moved to FNB. Best decision we ever made.
