Over 5 months to close an account.

Hi all,
I left for Canada in July 2014 on a two year work permit, I discussed this with the bank in question and was informed that I needed to sign these email forms to transfer money from outside of SA. This I did knowing that I needed to leave the account running for the first year that I was away and after that would close it, transfer my balance and that would be that. Standard bank clearly had other ideas for my money.
Firstly they sent me forms to print out sign and scan them back to Standard bank, this I did only to be informed that this was not good enough they needed the original copies or they could not close the account and therefore could not transfer my money to my account in Canada. This is been going on now for over 5 months.
I did post the originals but guess what they went missing in the post. Canada post could only track until it reached the host country.
In closing the Standard bank is still charging me over a R100,00 a month in service fees, I am just wondering what type of service I would be getting if I wasn't paying a service fee?

Regards,
Graham Scott (hoping to be x Standard Bank customer)
