Our free banking taken away - Pensioner.
My husband and I are aged 77 and 74 respectively. We have had accounts with Standard Bank for over 50 years. When he turned 55, we were given free banking, i.e. no bank charges. Later, it changed, we had to invest a certain amount with Standard for free banking. We comp****. Later, with no notification, we started being charged the transaction charges. It turned out that Standard Bank Unit Trusts no longer qualified as being a bank investment, so we switched to what was considered a bank investment to obtain our free banking. Recently, also with absolutely no notification, we received a charge on our statement. After between 12 to 18 months of back and forth to our branch, when different people spent ages tapping at their computers to reverse the charges, only to have them come back again the next month, we have been advised that Standard Bank no longer offer free banking to their clients, be they of 50+ years standing, or over whatever age, or with whatever investment in their banking products. Nice one, Standard Bank. Now that we are in our seventies, having been on pension for 19 years, you take our benefit away and make us pay for it. Your disloyalty takes my breath away.
