Not secure, not safe, leave while you can before your money is ******.
The worst bank in South Africa. If you don't know Standard Bank and its insurer Liberty were hit by a massive data breach involving 1.2 terabytes of data. A hacker group called "Rootboy" accessed internal administrative systems and publicly leaked customer data, including names, contact info, ID/passport numbers, account numbers, and limited credit card details.
However, even without this, Standard Bank still fails to properly secure accounts associated with Trusts. Our trust account was allowed access to by a 3rd party who made withdrawals when they are not appointed as a trustee or a beneficiary. Standard Bank staff are not educated on the matter of trusts being separate from the estate of a deceased party.
At this point the only mystery here is how Standard Bank is allowed to still operate when it cannot secure funds properly or regulate access to accounts securely.
Despite the name, nothing about this bank is "Standard". They might aspire to reach what could be considered standard or basic by other modern banks, but at this point in time, we would probably have a more secure banking experience giving our money to a random street vendor or car guard and asking them to keep it safe!
Despite all of this, Standard Bank remain uncooperative and refuses to help us despite the trust no being over 1 Million Rand in Dept! This is absolutely disgusting, I look forward to the day they finally close their doors for good.
We attempted to contact you, however, we were unable to reach you.
Thank you
Kindest regards,
Standard Bank Hello Peter Team

Email me, I have no interest talking to you over the phone again.
Email me, I have no interest talking to you over the phone again.
Thank you for reaching out to us.
Additionally, our process requires proper authentication to ensure we can action and escalate your request appropriately.
Alternatively, we recommend visiting your nearest branch for further assistance.
Thank you for your understanding. "
Here is my reply:
First of all, I have already visited your branch multiple times and had multiple calls with different departments, as you passed the buck internally and bounced my call around, only to hang up while I'm on hold!
You have exhausted all my patience and understanding.
I'm not wasting another second of my life dealing with your pathetic, unskilled, and untrained customer support staff!
I've already had to deal with jumping through hoops while you pass the buck internally, bouncing my calls between different teams while I hold for up to an hour, only to have one of your members end the call while I've been on hold for an hour.
You promised me a "call back" and never called.
Now you expect me to again sit on the phone and talk to a member of your support team who acts like phones were invented just an hour ago and talks like they have a mouth full of peanuts and their tongue got super glued to their palate?
For what? For me to sit there and attempt to decipher what they are saying, only so you can place me on hold, force me to sit around for an hour again, and wait for you only to hang up on me again and not call me back?
Does that seem like the kind of service I want to deal with again?
In fact, that anyone would want to deal with?
Second of all, your competition has figured out a way to handle these situations asynchronously.
You are not my first choice when it comes to banking, and the only reason I'm even speaking to you is that a relative of mine had an unfortunate lapse of judgment and made the mistake of opening a trust account with you, the most *********** bank, in my opinion, that I have ever dealt with.
You have no problem allowing people who have nothing to do with the trust into the account to freely make withdrawals, but when someone who is involved with the trust contacts you, you won't even so much as help them understand how they can go about settling the debt.
As I said before, the term "Standard" is not what you are, it's what you aspire to, hopefully, someday be.
But the more I have the displeasure of dealing with you, the more I realize that will never become a reality, and the sooner your other customers realize that, the better off they will be!!!!
