NOT ALLOWING ME TO CLOSE ACCOUNT

I have opened up a new account with another bank due to a lot of reasons and now when I go into the bank to close my account I get told that they cannot close my account as I have a loan with them, on top of this they are billing me R100 service fee for no service as no monies is going into the account. I call this day light *******. what does a loan have to do with closing one's account please tell me. So now I must pay the bank R100 every month for nothing and my account is open and debit orders will go through and there is no money so I will probably have to pay a fee for that too.. . no wonder I'm with another bank!
