NON COMPLIANCE WITH CONSUMER LENDING ACT
I had a credit card with Standard bank and requested to have a reduced instalment and also for my credit card to not have credit being added. After my request, my credit card was changed into an advance account. I have been paying for this advance account for 2 years. I recently stated to standard bank that I was in a bad financial situation ans requested that they allow me to pay a less instalment for a couple of months. Standard bank too my account to lawyers who are demanding me to pay a higher instalment than what I was initially paying directly to standard bank. The lawyers have said that this is an instruction from Standard bank. I have been a standard bank customer for 11 years bu their treatment is not good at all. They are unable to negotiate with their clients when they experience financial difficulty. I also did calculations with regards to the advance account from standard bank and found that they have charged more than 100% interest which is against the law. My credit card owe R72000. When my account was changed to an advance account I was told that I would be paying R1306 a month. I have recently found that I will pay this amount over 10 years. This means R1306 x 12 Months x 10 years = R156720. Technically instead of Standard bank assisting me, they have put me into more debt. Secondly it is against the law to charge an interest of more that 100%. This is a total *******.
