MONTHLY PAYMENTS NOT MAKING DIFFERENCE TO CREDIT

I have a credit card with Standard Bank. In January my credit card was at around 23000. I have since not used the card but made payments and not even missed one to date and the debt is still the same amount. When I called the bank they claimed the bank charges were causing this. Please help me because I feel the bank I robbing me of my money. I trusted the banks but now I have doubts. HELP
