Money deposited into wrong account
August 2013, I had Lasik eye surgery. I submitted this claim through Sizwe Medical Aid and the amount of R14,462.80 was approved. However, this amount did not reflect in my Standard Bank account.
I contacted Sizwe on numerous occasions and I was informed by them that an EFT payment was made out to me. As per telecom I was informed that the account number on their system was my old bank account number which was closed approximately 5 years earlier. Sizwe should have also verified with me prior to payment, considering the time period that lapsed without activity. I do admit my fault in not providing my new banking details to Sizwe, as my premiums come off my monthly salary rather than my personal bank account.
I queried with Standard Bank and they confirmed the account number to which the claim was paid now belonged to another client whose name bears no resemblance to mine. I was informed that Standard Bank recycles its account numbers. Also, the bank did not advise me that my old account number will no longer belong to me and that it will be recycled?
I kindly request assistance from both Sizwe and Standard Bank, as this matter has been unresolved since 2013.
Nasreen ***
