Mixed Information

Dear Hello Peter

I wanted to open a bank account for son who is 11yrs. He accompanied me to Cavendish branch in Claremont. We were third in line but sat and waited for about an hour and then decided to leave as the line had not moved since we got there. In the same day we rushed to the Promenade branch in Mitchells Plain only to find that the line there was onger and as perreception lady, the line had not moved for 2 hours but we were welcomed to sit and wait if we wanted to. I decided against it and left,

The next day which was today, i went to Mowbray branch and there was no line there, I waited less than 5 minutes and got attended to by a consultant. The consultant advised me that I needed to have my son with me because he needs to sign and I would basically co-sign. She printed the document she was referring to which I could not contest. I then left and rushed home to pick my son up who had just arrived from school. We rushed off to the bank with all the required documents namely, ID, proof of address and his birth certificate, The lady looked at the birth certificate and told me that it needs to be an Abbridged birth certificate, I said that is not true because Cavendish and Mowbray branches accepted the docs as is. She went on further to say that my name needs to reflect on the birth certificate stating that I am his father. I advised her that I am married to his mother, we share the same surname and she said it cuts no ice. I said to her that is ridiculous and that I demand to see a document that states what she is telling me. She approached a consultant who then searched for a document for nearly 10 minutes. The consultant eventually came with a print out that mention that a minor should be accompanied by a parent with an unabriidged certificate. I took the printout to read further at home. When I arrived home to only realise that the document refers to FOREIGN NATIONALS, of which I am a South African Citizen.

I was fuming when I arrived at home and will approach the bank manager with this stupid document and for this reason I have decided against opening the account at Standard Bank and will consider moving our accounts from there to another bank
