Missing Funds

How is it possible to electronically transfer funds from your current account to your own homeloan account and see your balance reduce but have nothing credited to the homeloan account? In my youth in my brief career in banking it was always the case that the debits equalled the credits, so I deduce that my funds (R2200) are “floating around” somewhere. I can confirm that I clicked on the two accounts on the internet banking so it is not possible that I have entered incorrect account numbers. I have been with Standard Bank since 1982 and have always been treated with respect. Indeed, the Customer Care people had a very professional approach right up to the point where I had been hanging on to a phone call (Europe – Africa) for 25 minutes at my own expense before the call cut off. I am tempted to think that no-one knew how to deal with the situation. I then resorted to emails which were greeted by security questions to ensure I was not a ********* (Quite rightly). The mail then circulated around various departments (with my security questions and answers visible to all) . The best response was “In order for us to consider the request; we require a letter signed by all parties on the bond as well as proof of payment.” So, to find what Standard Bank had done with my funds, I have to revisit the house documentation which has been in the possession of my home branch (Lyttelton) since 1989? Clearly this is an effort to make me go away and has nothing to do with my missing funds. As a pensioner I do not regard the sum as trivial and am not prepared to throw my hands in the air and walk away. Furthermore, at the end of this month I will be transferring a considerably larger sum to SARS and would not like to see that disappear into space – with all the SARS penalties that this would entail.
