Misleading cancellation

When I recently decided to switch my home loan to a different bank (due to SB being unwilling to even consider renegotiating interest rates) I went out of my way to make sure they were given 90 days notice so I wouldn't have to pay any early settlement fees. 5 months later (2+ of which were due to delays in the deeds office) the registration is finally finished and the new loan active.

Standard Bank however has deemed it appropriate to charge me an early settlement fee anyway because I didn't cancel the bond WITHIN 3 months. When I specifically asked about the expiry date on the cancellation notice originally I was assured that it just means that's the earliest I can register without paying any penalties.

When queried via their call centre I was told sorry, but too bad, I had to re-notify at the 3 month mark and hope it registers close to the next 90 day anniversary. After that the agent disconnected me after asking for an explanation of how you can get a bond registered in a single day.

Not only did they misrepresent their process and charge me a fee that I was doing everything to avoid, they effectively made me pay their noticeably higher instalment for an extra 3 months.
